Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed deep concern over reports alleging that Ukraine targeted the official residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin, reiterating India’s long-standing call for dialogue and diplomacy to end the Russia-Ukraine war.

In a post on X, PM Modi emphasized that diplomatic engagement remains the most viable path to peace and urged all parties to avoid actions that could derail ongoing negotiations. India has consistently maintained this position since the conflict began in February 2022.

The remarks came after Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that Ukraine launched a drone attack on Putin’s residence located between Moscow and Saint Petersburg. According to Russia, 91 drones were intercepted in the Novgorod region, with no reported damage or casualties. Lavrov stated that the incident could impact Russia’s stance in current peace talks.

Ukraine strongly denied the allegations. President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the claim as a fabrication, accusing Moscow of using it to justify further attacks on Kyiv and to weaken diplomatic efforts involving the United States. Zelensky asserted that such statements undermine ongoing peace initiatives aimed at ending the nearly four-year-long conflict.

As tensions persist, India continues to position itself as a proponent of peaceful resolution through sustained diplomatic engagement.
