Railway Budget 2026: New Trains to Boost India’s Rail Network

The Ministry of Railways has announced a major expansion of India’s modern train fleet under the Railway Budget 2026, with the induction of more Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat, and Namo Bharat trains during the financial year 2026–27.

Addressing a press conference at Rail Bhawan on February 1, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that Indian Railways will introduce additional Vande Bharat Sleeper and Vande Bharat Chair Car trains to enhance both long-distance and semi-high-speed travel across the country.

Manufacturing in Full Swing

The Railway Minister highlighted that manufacturing of these next-generation trains is already underway. He also revealed that nearly 17,000 coaches are currently under production and will be added to the national rail network in a phased and systematic manner.

“Manufacturing of Vande Bharat sleeper and chair car trains, Amrit Bharat and Namo Bharat trains, along with record induction of wagons, is progressing at an unprecedented pace,” Ashwini Vaishnaw said.

Focus on Capacity, Comfort, and Speed

The upcoming induction aligns with Indian Railways’ long-term strategy to modernize infrastructure, improve passenger comfort, and increase network capacity.

  • Vande Bharat trains are designed for speed, safety, and premium travel experience.
  • Amrit Bharat trains focus on affordable, long-distance travel with modern amenities.
  • Namo Bharat services aim to strengthen regional and suburban connectivity.

With large-scale coach and wagon production underway, Indian Railways is positioning itself to meet rising passenger demand while supporting freight growth and economic development.
